The
Société Française
d'Études Irlandaises (The French Society for
Irish Studies
or SOFEIR) is a grouping of all researchers working in
France on Irish literature and on questions concerning the human and
social sciences in Ireland. The SOFEIR is a not for profit association
(founded under the terms of the French 1901 not for profit
legislation). The association aims to promote and deepen the
understanding of all aspects of Irish culture, literature and society,
both in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, as well as
within the communities of the Irish Diaspora.
To this end, the SOFEIR organises an
annual
conference in mid March and also works in close cooperation
with EFACIS
(European
Federation of Association and Centers of Irish Studies)
and IASIL
(International
Association for the Study of Irish Literatures).
Today there are more than 200 members of the SOFEIR.
The SOFEIR's
publications may be found within the pages of
the Études
Irlandaises journal.
